Our home is a typical late 19th century Provencal farmhouse located on a small road in the quiet countryside among fruit orchards, vegetable farms, sunflowers and wheat. It has been renovated by Emma, former designer and Fred the handyman with respect for traditional Provencal architecture (lime-washes, terracotta tiles, old ceiling beams) but with modern amenities.
We have decided to separate our Mas in three parts . On the west end is our private home. On the east end is a small cottage that sleeps 5, and in the middle is a self contained guesthouse (150m² ~=1620sqft) for up to 8 people .
This large guesthouse offers 4 bedrooms all with fans, 3 bathrooms with tub, shower or both (all with a hair dryer and French local soap), a living room, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, freezer, oven, induction hob, dish washer, washing machine, coffee machine, herbs and spices,…). The guesthouse has a private terrace with sun chairs, and BBQ. The terrace is also equipped with tables and chairs for outside lunches and dinners under 2 huge 150-year-old plane trees.
The farmhouse is situated within 2 acres of beautiful grounds that has been planted with a variety of trees. The 12 m x 5 m (35 ft. X 14 ft.) swimming pool is inviting and peaceful and sits next to the house. You will share the grounds and the swimming pool with other cottage guests.
We are exactly in the middle of Provence. Among the Luberon, the Alpilles, vineyards, Mont Ventoux and Avignon. Avignon surrounded by a wall, offers a beautiful visit of the 15th century Popes Palace and can be the ideal place for your French shopping.
Le Mas de Miejour is the starting point of interesting and gorgeous day trips to different villages in the Luberon area. Most beautiful villages in France such as Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lourmarin, Lacoste, Menerbes are only a short distance away. The Alpilles area is also an excellent destination. There you will find the very chic village of Saint Remy and the astonishing medieval village of Les Baux de Provence. Sablet and Seguret, villages in the heart of vineyards, are also classified as some of the most beautiful villages in France. The neighboring village of l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, is worldwide known for its antiques shops (over 250) and also known for its extraordinary Sunday market. Another neighboring village, Velleron, offers an astounding fruits and vegetable farmer's market which is held every evening. We bet you won't forget the taste of its wonderful local products.
Within 30 to 45 minutes you can tour the well-known vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueras, Beaumes de Venise and the not so well-known, but just as good, Côtes du Rhône, Ventoux or Côtes du Luberon appellation. As former sommeliers, we will be happy to share all our addresses and tips with you. We would also be happy to share Fred's personal wine collection along with Emma's French and typical Provencal meals such as Aïoli, petits farcis, lapin à la Provencal, bagna caouda, local goat cheeses. We can also provide a private chef. Le Mas de Miejour is only 50 minutes away from the Marseille international airport, 1 hour from Nîmes airport and 2h30 away from the Nice international airport. Paris is also only 2h38 away from Avignon with the high speed train (TGV).
